‘YOPEY’ to improve image of young people in Buckinghamshire
The third annual Young People of the Year contest in Buckinghamshire – or 'YOPEY' – has been launched.
Aimed at showing the positive side to young people today, there will be at least £2,000 in cash prizes for youngsters who are 'positive role models' and 'give to others'.
The Bucks YOPEY is open to young people aged from 10 to 25, who should live, work or study in Buckinghamshire or Milton Keynes. They can enter themselves or be nominated as individuals or groups.
Schools, colleges, youth organisations, churches, charities and other bodies that work with young people are encouraged to nominate young people they know. If their nomination wins, they can receive half the prize money. Family and friends can also nominate but they cannot win prize money.
The Bucks Young Person of the Year will win £1000. Second place will win £500 and third £250. There will be a junior Bucks Young Person of the Year winning £250.
All YOPEY prizes are shared with the community. The young winners give half their cash prize to a good cause of their choice, but they keep the other half of the prize money to treat themselves.
“With your help, YOPEY will ‘Reveal, Recognise and Reward’ fantastic young people who give to others," said YOPEY founder Tony Gearing. “It’s about giving respect to young people who deserve it and setting them up as Positive Role for other young people.”
